Horse Gallop in the Sky, Newmarket

Client: The Jockey Club
Service: EIA Lead, Scoping and ES

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) project lead, working closely with the client and engineering design team, to develop the EIA strategy for a bespoke elevated horse training gallop – the first of its kind in the UK.

Prepared a targeted EIA Scoping Report to effectively scope back environmental assessments and limit the number of Environmental Statement (ES) chapters. Ongoing close working with the design team was key to informing the final scheme and minimising adverse impacts on the landscape and views, drainage across the site, and to provide ecological features, including a floating wetland habitat.

Prepared focused ES Addendums to respond to comments from Officers and Natural England to avoid an objection. Upfront information was also provided to proactively minimise pre-commencement planning conditions.

The application was successfully approved by Forest Heath District Council Planning Committee September 2017.
